Recognition of Florida’s 16th Congressional District Teacher of the Year Award (Office of Teaching and Learning) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Each year, the Congressional Teacher of the Year Award recognizes Suncoast teachers for their outstanding achievements as educators. In 2014, this award was established by Congressman Vern Buchanan to honor educators for their ability to teach and inspire students. Ms. Danielle Murphy has been teaching at Boyette Springs Elementary School for 14 years where she currently teaches fourth grade. Ms. Murphy serves as the chairperson for the School Advisory Committee, is an Instructional Leadership Team member, and is the elementary science contact. In this role, she started an afterschool science club in which students participate with an annual family science night where they showcase their Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) related scientific investigations. Building culture and climate in the classroom along with increasing community and parent involvement is evident with the work that Ms. Murphy does at Boyette Springs Elementary School. Her classroom exemplifies students sharing the load, respecting the diverse uniqueness of each class member, and conducting student-led conferences. In addition, community and parent involvement is an area where she has been very proactive by reaching out to local business partners, the Girl Scouts of America, and former students to sponsor an annual cleanup of the school’s nature preserves. From Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, parent information nights, the STEM Fair, and honor society events Ms. Murphy is dedicated to inspiring students and making a difference as an educator in Hillsborough County Public Schools. |
