SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Charter School Food Service Agreement Between the Excelsior Prep Charter School and the School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Student Nutrition Services (SNS) has been asked to provide meal service to the Excelsior Prep Charter School for the 2017/18 school year under the district's sponsorship of the National School Lunch Program.

Under the agreement, SNS is responsible for approving free and reduced price meal applications, furnishing food and supplies for meal services, and providing technical assistance.  The Charter School will be responsible for adhering to meal accountability procedures, serving correct menu items, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the service of food.

The meals served will be included as part of the SNS monthly federal reimbursement claim.  The charter school will be invoiced for student "full pay" meals, adult meals, emergency meals, and any other meals that can not be claimed as free or reduced price.

The term of this contract is September 13, 2017, through May 25, 2018.  A contract to provide vended meals to this Charter school was approved by the School Board on August 1.  The charter school had stated that they had an agreement with the state to be a sponsor of the National School Lunch Program.  However, they have decided to not be a sponsor but have requested to be added to Hillsborough County School's sponsorship, which results in a contract change.  SNS will start serving the school meals on August 21st as originally planned and will do so under the original terms and until the new contract is in effect.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Meals served to students approved for free or reduced price meals are claimed for reimbursement on the SNS monthly claim form submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.  The charter school is fiscally responsible for meals served to paid students, and for extra meals ordered and delivered, but not served.  Projected revenue will be approximately $29,092 over expenses.
