Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Awareness Initiative, LLC to Provide Educational Programs Regarding Impaired Driving (Office of Teaching and Learning) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
DUI Awareness Initiative, LLC will partner with Hillsborough County Public Schools to provide live multimedia educational programs regarding impaired driving, alcohol's negative impact on athletic performance, and adverse influence on student performance:
The Obvious Choice program educates students in impaired driving. This program is currently conducted in 250 driver education classes at 27 high schools in Hillsborough County, Florida. The Athletes Aware program educates athletes about alcohol's significant and unavoidable adverse physiological impact on athletic performance, inspires participants to maximize their performance potential by avoiding alcohol, and identifies the substantial consequences associated with impaired driving. |

Funds in the amount of $38,000.00 will be available in the Secondary Education Driver Education budget. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 5303. As of Friday, August 5, 2016, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $45,479.49. | |
EVALUATION | |
Students will evidence greater awareness of the consequences of DUI arrests and alcohol abuse based on pre-test and post-test data. | |
