SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Naming and Dedication of the Auditorium at Plant City High School
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Plant City High School alumni, faculty, and community members have requested that the auditorium at Plant City High School be named the James A. "Sonny" Jones, Sr. Auditorium.

The James A. "Sonny" Jones, Sr. Auditorium will celebrate and honor Mr. Jones' 36 years of dedication to the students in Hillsborough County Public Schools.  Mr. Jones graduated from Turkey Creek High School in 1949, graduated from college in 1953, and became a teacher.  Mr. Jones served as dean of boys at Mann Middle School before being appointed as assistant principal at Plant City High School.  He served as principal of Tomlin Junior High School until he was appointed principal of Plant City High School where he served until he retired in 1990.

Mr. Jones influenced and enriched the lives of many students and families in the Plant City community throughout his education career.  He is admired and respected for his gentle manner, his encouragement and high expectations, and genuine interest in achievements and accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.  Since his retirement, he has stayed involved in the community and our schools as a member of the Civitan Club that works with the Jr. Civitan Clubs at Durant and Plant City high schools.  He has been involved with the Strawberry Festival Youth Parade and serves on several scholarship selection committees.

It would be an honor to the faculty, staff, alumni, and community to have the approval for the naming and dedication of the James A. "Sonny" Jones, Sr. Auditorium at Plant City High School.
