Recognition of the 2016 National Geographic Bee Winner (Office of Teaching and Learning) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Each year thousands of schools across the country participate in the National Geographic Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society. The contest is for students in grades four through eight and is designed to inspire students to be curious about the world. School level winners take a test to qualify for the National Geographic State Bees. The state winners then travel to the National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C. for the culminating National Geographic Bee Championship.
We are proud and honored to recognize Rishi Nair, a sixth grade student from Williams Middle Magnet School, as the 2016 National Geographic Bee Champion. Rishi is the first national winner from Hillsborough County Public Schools and the second from the state of Florida. Our champion will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society, and an all-expense paid Linblad expedition to southeast Alaska aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion. The trip includes a stop at Glacier Bay National Park in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. Travel is provided by Linblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society. |
