Approve All Title I Projects and Funds, Based on Final Approval from the State, for the 2017/2018 School Year (Academic Support and Federal Programs Division) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Title I funds will provide resources to support educational programs for approximately 90,000 children in 153 Title I public schools, 10 institutions for delinquent children, 7 institutions for neglected children, 7 institutions for at-risk youth, 49 non-public institutions, 6 eligible migrant high schools, 4 eligible migrant middle schools, and 15 eligible migrant elementary schools. The District has received only preliminary allocations for each Title I project. The preliminary allocations, which may include any allowable roll-forward amount, are as follows: Title I Basic: $61,321,389 (including estimated roll-forward funds along with Private school and Homeless set asides) Title I Neglected and Delinquent: $597,304 Migrant: $3,093,483 Migrant PASS: $238,500 |

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes) | |
Funds in the amount of $65,250,676 will be available in the Title I projects. For tracking purposes, the project numbers specific to this agenda item are 3307, 3359, 3329, and 3395. As of January 31, 2018, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $38,090,318. This item is included in the District Special Revenue Federal Programs Budget. This project will provide the District approximately $65,250,676 in federal funds under Title I. | |
EVALUATION | |
A comprehensive evaluation of the 2017/2018 Title I project will be completed in the fall of 2018. Separate evaluations will be completed for the District’s migrant, homeless, neglected and delinquent, and private school programs. The evaluations will address the specific objectives of each project application and will determine the impact that funds had in meeting those objectives. Data to be analyzed will include school grades, state and local assessments, data from advanced placement courses, teacher evaluations, survey results from homeless, neglected and delinquent programs, parent and community involvement, and professional development. The information will be used to better prioritize and direct federal dollars toward programs and initiatives that are closing current achievement gaps. | |
