SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Contract with Akerman LLP for School Board Attorney Services (Business Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As of February 5, 2018, James J. Porter (Partner) at Akerman LLP will continue the School Board Attorney Services once held at Adams & Reese, LLP.  The Services will include a flat monthly fee of $13,750.  This will cover representation of the School Board including advice, counseling, and attendance at all School Board meetings, workshops, and any other meetings deemed appropriate.  Services will include a flat monthly fee of $1,000 for drafting and updating School Board policies, including legislative policy updates.  The services will include a reduced hourly fee for litigation including the prosecution or defense of any federal, state, and local judicial and administrative proceedings and appeals brought by or against the School Board.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The attached contract represents a reduction in legal service fees. Funds in the amount of $73,750 will be available in Project 9999.  As of January 26, 2018, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $305,000.
EVALUATION
There will be an evaluation of performance every two years.
