Approve Extended School Year (ESY) Program - 2018 (Office of Teaching and Learning)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The ESY Program is designed to provide both academic and enrichment opportunities that are responsive to the needs of students and aligned with the Student Progression Plan.  The ESY Committee, with representation from each division, convenes annually and is responsible for the program development and the coordination of resources. This program is funded through the following sources: Supplemental Academic Instruction Categorical, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Title I-School Improvement, Title I-Migrant, Title III-English Language Acquisition, Industry Certification, student fees, and various grants.
 
The 2018 ESY Program Handbook will be posted on the district website and is used as a reference and communication tool for all stakeholders, including parents. Additional information for employees regarding ESY guidelines, schedules, and forms will be available via FirstClass IDEAS. Program implementation training will be provided to school administrators, program facilitators, and teachers.

Schools will notify individual students and/or parents when a specific ESY program is recommended.  Broader communication for enrichment programs is delivered through school newsletters, websites, Peachjar, and ParentLink.

The cost of the 2018 ESY Program is estimated to be $9,350,000.  The Financial Impact is continued on the attachment.
EVALUATION
An annual program review report for the 2018 ESY Program will include one or more of the following:  reports of enrollment, reports of attendance, course completion data, classroom visits, and student assessment data.  See attachment for the review of the 2017 ESY Program.
