Hillsborough County Public Schools Students Work Locally and Nationally to Promote School Safety (Outreach and School Improvement) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Hillsborough County Public Schools students united to make their voices heard in the local and national conversation around school safety. Area school students peacefully demonstrated with the purpose of voicing their concerns about school safety, gun control, and the lack of available mental health support in the wake of last month’s school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. On Monday, March 26, 2018 some of the same students met with U.S. Senator Bill Nelson and U. S. Representative Kathy Castor to further discuss concerns and to strategize for change moving forward. As part of the democratic process, students are learning first-hand the importance of citizenship and being an active participant in the governmental processes. |
