Students Develop Community Impact Projects Through Positive Youth Development Program "Girls on the Run" (Outreach and School Improvement)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Girls on the Run (GOTR) program provides trained coaches to lead small teams through a research-based curriculum which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-5th grade develop critical life skills to help them navigate their worlds. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and completing a celebratory 5K event. GOTR is one of the only physical activity-based positive youth development (PA-PYD) programs with compelling evidence that participants learn life skills and then use them in other aspects of their lives.

For the 2017 Fall Season, the GOTR team at Apollo Beach Elementary made four large blankets that they donated to Project Linus for their Community Impact Project.

For the 2018 Spring Season, the GOTR team at Clair Mel Elementary is creating Thank You Cards for the men and women serving in our military.  This is their Community Impact Project.
