Recognition of the Going for the Gold HCPS 90x20 Pledge Weeks Conducted by Twenty-Two Schools and Three Faith-Based Community Agencies (Office of Diversity)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Going for the Gold HCPS 90x20 Committee invited schools and faith based community agencies to participate in the Going for the Gold HCPS 90x20 Pledge Week (March 5-30, 2018). The committee’s goal was to have participants from five schools or community agencies however, the overwhelming support included a total of 25 schools and faith-based community agencies of which 22 were schools.  The Office of Diversity played an important role in promoting the 90x20 Pledge Week by involving the principals at various schools.  This support helped us exceed our goal of 5,000 participants with a total number of 7,853 pledges and 315 classrooms and groups participating.

Pledge Week (no fees associated) included schools, faith-based community agencies selecting a day during pledge weeks and committing to strengthening a culture of excellence in Hillsborough County Public Schools by increasing awareness of the District’s goal (90% graduation rate by 2020), as well as the importance of all students graduating.  The participants Deciding! Committing! And Acting! to achieve or support the 90% graduation rate in 2020 and beyond for all students.  The participants signed their name on a pledge sheet and/or card during homeroom or their designated location to demonstrate their level of commitment.

The Going for the Gold HCPS 90x20 also included other components:
Wellness clinics as the mode of apparatus to bring families, students, district employees, community members and board members together at a variety of locations.  The clinics united everyone for a common cause, to promote goal-setting, good health and wellness.

A team of over 550 parents, students, district staff and community members participated in the 5K Gasparilla Race on February 23, 2018.  Our team was recognized as the largest team and received the “Chevrolet Cruzin’ Krewe Challenge” plaque from the Publix Gasparilla Foundation.

The Going for the Gold planning team’s collective efforts fostered meaningful interactions, enhanced trust, and shaped positive public perception of the graduation goal.
