Adoption of Proclamation - National Mental Health Awareness Month, May 2018 (Academic Support and Federal Programs) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Mental health awareness has risen to the forefront of law enforcement, the media, and within the government. It has become increasingly evident that early intervention and education is the key to establishing healthy minds. May is recognized as National Mental Health Awareness Month and the Student Services department would like to acknowledge the teams that address mental health concerns in our district. School Counseling Services, School Health Services, School Psychological Services, and School Social Work Services teams are available at every school. These teams provide daily support to our students, individual/group counseling, classroom/large group in-service presentations, faculty and administration consultation, agency referrals, and also participate in parent conferences. Additionally, the Crisis Intervention Team, comprised of a school health consultant, school psychologists, and school social workers, is available to respond to schools when crises occur, such as the death of a student, teacher or staff member. The district also utilizes the Local Planning Team, comprised of professionals from community agencies and private organizations, to address mental health concerns in our community. Their expertise and desire to spread awareness benefits our staff through professional development as well as supporting our students through referrals. |
