SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Cooperative Agreement with Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) (Educational Access, Opportunity, and Alternatives)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The district's Youth Services Program provides educational services to students enrolled in the K-12 instructional program who are incarcerated in adult jails administered by the HCSO. This agreement, which outlines the roles and responsibilities of Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) and the HCSO, is designed to facilitate the effective and efficient delivery of services to students served in jail settings as required by Florida law. This ensures that students receiving educational services in the HCSO sites will receive Extended Year and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) funding from the Florida Education Finance Program. Approximately 50 students are served at any given time by two dropout prevention teachers, an assistant teacher, and an ESE teacher.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES | |
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration • Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
The HCSO provides the facilities at no cost to HCPS. In 2016/2017, expenditures for this agreement totaled $1,112,216. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 4672.
EVALUATION | |
This program is evaluated by Youth Services department staff based on a model developed by the Juvenile Justice Educational Enhancement Program. A review will be completed by June 30, 2019.
