Recognition of Area Attendance, School Attendance, and Presentation of the Beth Shields Awards 2015/2016 (Student Services Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Sixteen years ago, Deputy Superintendent Beth Shields initiated an attendance incentive program for schools that met or exceeded the annual district attendance goal of 96%. Schools who meet this goal are awarded either a flag (first, fifth, tenth, and fifteenth years) or a colored streamer (subsequent years between the milestones).  In 2006/2007, this incentive was expanded to recognize the area with the highest cumulative attendance average and the area with the most improved cumulative attendance average from the previous school year.  The Area Superintendent from the recognized areas receive a trophy depicting this accomplishment.

This year, 34 schools will be recognized for their outstanding achievement in maintaining high attendance percentages for the 2015/2016 school year.  The Beth Shields Attendance award recipients will be recognized and presented with a plaque for achieving the highest percentage of attendance at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $293.50 will be available in the districtwide site budget 9350 (General Fund). For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 9999. As of Wednesday, August 10, 2016, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $4,252.00.
EVALUATION
At the end of the school year, the Supervisor of Attendance will conduct an evaluation comparison of attendance percentages to the previous year. The report will be shared with the Board annually.
