SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve  Affiliation Agreements for Health Science Education for the 2018/2019 School Year  (Workforce Connections)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of the following affiliation agreements to provide clinical training for health science education programs.
  • Florida Hospital Carrollwood
  • Florida Hospital Zephyrhills
  • HCA Health Services of Florida, Inc. D/B/A Oak Hill Hospital
  • The Bristol at Tampa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center
  • West Florida Facility Inc.
The Florida Department of Education curriculum frameworks require on-site clinical training for health science education enrollees. At this time, we have 101 active clinical facilities that provide hands-on clinical experiences for secondary and postsecondary students based on affiliation agreements. The length of programs in which students are enrolled range from three weeks to 14 months. These standard agreements are necessary to fulfill our obligation to students for clinical experiences. The partnerships we establish with the clinical facilities in this community are essential to our Health Science Education programs and beneficial to the health care industry. We are pleased that the quality of our graduates provides an incentive to the health care industry to continue our long-term mutually beneficial relationship.

These facilities require The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida to be the first signature on the agreements.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Clinical facilities are provided by various health care agencies at no cost to the Hillsborough School District.
EVALUATION
In 2017/2018, Brewster Technical College's Pharmacy program and Tampa Bay Technical High School's Health Academy conducted clinical rotations at Florida Hospital with 75 students, and 100% of students and staff deemed the experience as being valuable in augmenting the educational process to real world industry experience. In 2018/2019, all five facilities will host a total of 177 students between Erwin Technical College's Practical Nursing and Medical Laboratory Technology programs, Brewster Technical College's Pharmacy program in conjunction with our secondary program at Tampa Bay Technical High Schools' Health Academy.   Clinical facilities will be evaluated by students and instructors after each clinical rotation utilizing a clinical evaluation tool.
