Approve the Application for BridgePrep Academy of Advanced Studies of Hillsborough (Charter Office)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On February 1, 2018, the district received eight applications for prospective charter schools.  Applicants were given the opportunity to present their applications to the Charter School Application Review Team. The Team, made up of staff from a variety of district departments, reviewed the applications and provided feedback collectively. Feedback was compiled and used to interview the applicant for further understanding of the application. 

Two applications were approved at the May 15, 2018 Board meeting:
  • Big Bend Academy of Math and Science
  • Riverview Academy of Math and Science
Four out of the eight applications were withdrawn. The following applicants withdrew their applications and may apply during a later application period:
  • R.I.S.E Charter School
  • Championship Academy of Distinction at Hillsborough
  • MindSource Learning Academy Hillsborough County
  • Olympia Academy of Computer Science
The recommendation is to approve the application for BridgePrep Academy of Advanced Studies of Hillsborough. 

The application meets all of the statutory requirements in F.S. 1002.33(6).

The remaining application will be presented to the School Board at a later date.

The estimated cost of the review of the eight charter school applications is $74,172.49. The review of charter school applications is not covered by the two to five percent administrative fee collected to support the district charter schools.
EVALUATION
Staff will annually review the application process to ensure that all statutory requirements are met.
