SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Amendment 1 to the Agreement with Gaetz Aerospace Institute, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) to Continue and Expand Aerospace-Related Dual-Enrollment Courses (Workforce Connections)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On September 12, 2017, the School Board approved the Agreement with Gaetz Aerospace Institute, ERAU to continue and expand offerings of Aerospace-Related Dual-Enrollment Courses.

This Amendment 1 to the Agreement with ERAU will continue and expand the ERAU Aerospace Career Academy at Robinson High School, Jefferson High School, and Steinbrenner High School. The objective of these courses is to introduce high school students to collegiate and professional trade-level study with a focus on professional aeronautical topics leading to both high school graduation credits and college credits for courses completed, as well as industry certification.

Aerospace Career Academy courses will be taught by current teachers by mutual agreement of ERAU and Hillsborough County Public Schools, and these teachers will be credentialed and qualified to teach under the criteria established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. ERAU will provide teacher training and curriculum materials to implement this program.

ERAU has requested that The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida be the first signature on this amendment.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $6,065 will be available in Industry Certification Project 4527.  These funds are from weighted full-time equivalent funds earned by previous student achievement in Industry Certification testing. Students in these ERAU Dual-Enrollment courses have the opportunity to achieve industry certification, which would generate funding to use to continue this program in future school years.
EVALUATION
In 2017/2018, there were 47 students enrolled in ERAU Dual-Enrollment Courses. These courses included Aviation Physics, Principles of Aeronautical Science, Private Pilot Operations, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). During the year, three students earned industry certifications in Small UAS Safety Certification, and two students earned industry certifications in FAA Private Pilot.

Career and Technical Education Department staff will evaluate this agreement based on the number of students earning the dual-enrollment credit and industry certifications for the 2018/2019 school year.
