SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Amendment #002 to Contract #LC937 2015/2020 with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Child Care Training Coordination Contract (Workforce Connections)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
This is an amendment to the five-year contract to administer and coordinate state-mandated child care training and competency exams for current child care personnel or anyone seeking child care employment in Hillsborough and Pasco counties. This contract was effective on July 1, 2015, and ends on June 30, 2020. This amendment shall begin on the date it has been signed by both parties. The purpose of Amendment #002 is to reduce the current contract amount of $161,781.96 annually to $80,891.00 annually. Over the past several years, there has been a steady increase in the course revenue collected by the Providers, so that costs and revenue are no longer in alignment. With this increase and no additional costs to the Providers, DCF completed a statewide tour to assess the actual costs associated with operating a training coordinating agency. While meeting with each Provider, DCF discussed specific budgetary needs related to operating the training coordinating agency. After completing the tour, DCF determined that the entire original contracted amount was no longer necessary for the operation of the training coordinating agency. DCF is accounting for the additionally generated revenue by reducing the current contracted funding support previously required by the Providers. Additionally, the purpose of this amendment is to update certain sections of the contract that do not have a financial impact. DCF requires the School Board’s signature acknowledging acceptance of this amendment to the contract prior to DCF's final signature. |

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES | |
• Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
The original contract amount of $161,781.96 (Project Number 2914) annually was included in the divisional operating budget. This amount will be reduced to $80,891.00 annually. The district will generate additional funds, estimated to be $225,000, through delivery of online courses and competency exam sessions. As this is a multi-year contract, unexpended funds at the end of each fiscal year will roll forward.
EVALUATION | |
In 2017/2018, 6,168 students enrolled in training courses and 11,709 competency exams were administered. At the end of each fiscal year, success will be based on the number of students enrolled in training courses and competency exams administered.
