Recognition of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women Announces Winners of Women's History Essay Contest (Office of Teaching and Learning)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Florida Commission on the Status of Women honored the winners of its 3rd Annual Women’s History Essay Contest during a celebration luncheon on February 7, 2018, at the Florida Capitol Building in Tallahassee, as a component of the Annual Women’s Legislative Education Summit. The middle school participants in this year’s contest were challenged to write about the issues they would champion as a newly elected public official, using female Florida legislators as inspiration.

One of this year’s winners is from Hillsborough County Public Schools: Dominic Celestin, 1st Place, 6th grade, Turner/Bartels K-8 School for his essay entitled, “The Great Escape," in reference to the experiences of Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, 27th District of Florida.
