Recognition of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women Announces Winners of Women's History Essay Contest (Office of Teaching and Learning) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
The Florida Commission on the Status of Women honored the winners of its 3rd Annual Women’s History Essay Contest during a celebration luncheon on February 7, 2018, at the Florida Capitol Building in Tallahassee, as a component of the Annual Women’s Legislative Education Summit. The middle school participants in this year’s contest were challenged to write about the issues they would champion as a newly elected public official, using female Florida legislators as inspiration. One of this year’s winners is from Hillsborough County Public Schools: Dominic Celestin, 1st Place, 6th grade, Turner/Bartels K-8 School for his essay entitled, “The Great Escape," in reference to the experiences of Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, 27th District of Florida. |
