Recognition of Proclamation Adopted by Governor Rick Scott Observing Florida's Dads Take Your Child to School Day, September 26, 2018 (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Dads Take Your Child to School Day is a statewide initiative of the Florida Department of Education to encourage fathers and male role models to become involved in the education of their children as a means for increasing student achievement.  Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, foster fathers, and other male role models are invited to take their children to school on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.

Family involvement in a child’s learning is critical to student success from preschool through college and sets the foundation for preparing Florida's students to be life-long learners and meaningful contributors to society.  Although specific research into the impact of the father’s role in a child’s academic development is growing, findings suggest that when fathers are actively involved in their child's education, students:
  • Perform better academically
  • Have fewer discipline problems
  • Become more responsible adults
District schools support efforts for fathers to engage more fully in their children's education and to strengthen the connections between fathers and schools.
