SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with Narcotics Overdose Prevention Education of Hillsborough, Inc. (NOPE) to Provide a Narcotics Education Program in Secondary Schools Identified in the Project Prevent Grant (Leadership, Professional Development, and School Transformation)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Upon approval, this agreement will continue the partnership between The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida and NOPE. NOPE is a local non-profit agency that provides high-impact prevention and educational presentations, as well as discussion forums for parents and students in our secondary schools. Through the Project Prevent grant initiative, Hillsborough County Public Schools is expanding its partnership with NOPE to include additional parent presentations and leadership opportunities for students in order to cultivate a culture of awareness and prevention in the project schools surrounding the dangers and consequences of prescription drug abuse. NOPE has successfully replicated program activities and continues to expand these activities in non-project schools to ensure sustainability of the program after grant funding ends.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
All Strategic Objectives
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $10,990 will be available in the Project Prevent - Special Revenue budget.  For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 3510.  As of September 12, 2018, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $94,600.
EVALUATION
During Year 4 of Project Prevent, over 7,790 students participated in NOPE presentations, and 724 of those students were from Project Prevent schools. Survey feedback shared from student participants indicated an increased willingness to seek assistance for themselves and others when drug abuse and/or use is suspected. Survey results also indicated that students can better identify a trusted adult to seek assistance from as a result of participation. Participation of all Prevent project schools indicates growth since Year 1 of the project. Presentations in non-Prevent schools have increased which indicates efforts toward sustainability.
