Highlight the Expansion of the Partnership with Feeding Tampa Bay (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Feeding Minds, Nourishing Communities School Pantry Program is a strategic initiative with Feeding Tampa Bay that provides a sustained source of healthy and nutritious foods to students and their families conveniently located within the community.  With the District’s overall free and reduced lunch rate at close to 65 percent, the school-based pantries allow food insecure families and communities to have access to meals outside of school hours, when opportunities for healthy foods are not available. The school’s support staff identifies students and/or staff who may need intermittent or more regular occurring support for food; this program is intended to be responsive to food needs that are critical to a healthy learning environment and family stability.

During the 2017/2018 school year, through Feeding Tampa Bay’s commitment to Hillsborough County Public Schools, the Feeding Minds, Nourishing Communities School Pantry Program opened eight sustained food pantries at the following schools:

Bing Elementary Mort Elementary Ruskin Elementary B.T. Washington Elementary
Dover Elementary Potter Elementary Van Buren Elementary Woodbridge Elementary

The impact of this partnership has been substantial providing over 75,000 pounds of nutritious foods, including fresh produce and frozen meats to families, assisting families in completing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program applications, and committing to opening and sustaining 10 additional school-based food pantries at the following sites during the 2018/2019 school year.

Cleveland Elementary Forest Hills Elementary Lanier Elementary Sheehy Elementary Webb Middle
Dowdell Middle King High School Memorial Middle Thonotosassa Elementary Wimauma Elementary
