Adoption of the Proclamation Celebrating the 100th Birthday of Former Educator Mayme Harris Hargrett | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Mrs. Mayme Harris Hargrett served the students of Hillsborough County Public Schools for 37 years and volunteered as the first Girls' Basketball Coach at Middleton High School. She has reached a major milestone, turning 100 years old on September 29, 2016. Her son, Senator James (Jim) T. Hargrett, Jr, is the first African American member of the Florida Senate from Hillsborough County. Mrs. Hargrett's family has been an influential part of Hillsborough County for more than 60 years, owning and operating the largest and only African-American owned supermarket in Florida in 1949. | |
