Introduction of the Citizen Oversight Committee (Operations)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Citizen Oversight Committee is a group with a longstanding commitment to the children and families of Hillsborough County.  They will review the spending, progress and completion of all spending related to the $131 million a year generated by the half-penny sales tax.

The six independent citizens are not affiliated with the district and cannot work on projects funded by the referendum.  The Committee includes:

Committee Chair
Betty Castor, Former University of South Florida President and Florida Commissioner of Education

Committee Vice Chair
Sheriff Chad Chronister, Hillsborough County Sheriff and Longtime Child Protection Advocate

Bonnie Carr, Retired Certified Public Accountant and Former Controller, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hillsborough Community College

Earl Lennard, Former Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections and Superintendent of Schools

Ed Narain, Former State Representative and Active Civic Leader

Jose Valiente, Certified Public Accountant and Past Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce Chair
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration • Engage and communicate with families and stakeholders • Continuously improve processes and systems • Establish a strong foundation of financial stewardship • Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health • Construct and maintain facilities that create an environment conducive to teaching and learning
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
There is no cost to the School District.
