Approve Memorandum of Agreements for Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, 2019/2020 (Workforce Connections)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of the following Memorandum of Agreements for Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) programs.
  • Bloomingdale High School
  • Durant Senior High School
  • Howard W. Blake High School
  • H.B. Plant High School
  • Jefferson High School
  • Middleton High School
  • Walter L. Sickles High School
The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps is sponsored by the United States Armed Forces, and based at the schools listed above. The length of the AFJROTC programs in which students are enrolled ranges from one year to four years. The program prepares cadets to lead positive, productive and rewarding lives by teaching personal responsibility, enhancing leadership skills and enabling them to learn the value of teamwork.  These standard Memorandum of Agreements are necessary to fulfill our obligation to fully training AFJROTC cadets.  The partnerships we establish with the United States Air Force have been successful and we are pleased that the quality of our graduates provides an incentive to the United States Air Force to continue our long-term mutually beneficial relationship.

Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps requires The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida to be the first signature on the Memorandum of Agreements.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
AFJROTC programs are sponsored by the United States Air Force in partnership with the school district.  Approval of these Memorandum of Agreements will provide for the continued operation of the AFJROTC programs of which a portion of the instructor salary and operating expenses are included in the school district budget.
EVALUATION
AFJROTC facilities will be evaluated by the United States Air Force and site administrator for compliance.  All seven AFJROTC programs will be used by Hillsborough County District students as an integral part of their academic instruction. Every year more than 5,000 students in Hillsborough County Public Schools participate in  JROTC programs that are offered in all 27 high schools. The site administrators and cadets deem their involvement in AFJROTC as being valuable in augmenting the educational process to real workforce experience.
