Recognition of The Parent School Partnership (PSP) Program, An Inter-Divisional Collaboration To Empower Underrepresented Parents To Be Advocates and Leaders In Their Schools and Communities Districtwide (Chief of Schools) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) in partnership with the Mexican American Legal Defense Education Fund (MALDEF) is offering the Parent School Partnership (PSP) Program to empower parents to be advocates and leaders in their schools, and to build authentic parent school partnerships. The PSP Program aligns with all four district strategic priorities and builds on the cultural capital within our communities. The PSP Program prepares parents through a twelve-week leadership seminar to ensure parents gain knowledge to advocate and actively participate in their children's education as well as other important parent/school partnership functions. The departments of Migrant Education, Title I Parent and Family Engagement, Community Engagement Hispanic & Multicultural Outreach, The English Language Learners Program and a community partner, Hispanic Services Council, have united to offer the program districtwide. The program has expanded to train a cohort of Achievement School Parent Ambassadors, who will use the knowledge to build capacity at their schools. There are 26 active elementary, middle, and high school PSP program sites. |
