SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Expenditures for Legal Services Between the School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida and Karen C.D. Gabbadon, for Change of Placement Hearing Support Services. (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On July 16, 2013, the Board approved Karen C. D. Gabbadon for the legal representation in the area of change of placements, at the hourly rate of $150 per hour. Ms. Gabbadon was the designated primary attorney providing services to the Board under RFP 11031-DST Legal Services - Change of Placement Hearing Support Services with her previous firm, Stiles, Taylor and Grace, which no longer exists. Ms. Gabbadon is currently employed with Quintairos, Prieto, Wood and Boyer, P.A. Ms. Gabbadon's services will commence on November 27, 2016, and continue through November 26, 2017.

Florida Department of Education 6A-1.012 (11)(a) waives "the requirement for requesting competitive solicitations for commodities or contractual services from three or more sources for the purchase by district school boards of professional services which shall include, without limitation...legal services, including attorney, paralegal, expert witness, court reporting, appraisal or mediator services..."

Funds in the amount of $50,000.00 will be available in the Professional and Technical Services budget. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 9999. As of Friday, October 14, 2016, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $476,656.38.
