Adoption of Proclamation – National Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, April 24-28, 2017 (Academic Support & Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The National Afterschool Alliance, Florida Afterschool Association, and the Florida Afterschool Network have designated the week of April 24-28, 2017 as National Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week. 

The Hillsborough Out-of-School Time (HOST) program serves students afterschool in Hillsborough County.  HOST provides a safe, fun, and affordable quality program to students in 115 elementary and 36 middle schools throughout the district.  To meet the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of the students, HOST provides:

  • fun, enriching, and academic activities which promote confidence, creativity, self-esteem, and responsibility
  • a safe environment, staffed with warm and caring professionals
  • a relaxed atmosphere where children can socialize and make new friends
  • a nutritious, healthy, substantial snack
  • time to work on homework with assistance, if needed
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Develop, recognize, and reward employees • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
This agenda item has no financial impact to the district.
EVALUATION
Currently, over 1,200 afterschool professionals care for over 12,000 students each day during HOST.
