Recognition of Students with Perfect Attendance from Kindergarten through the Twelfth Grade with the Support of Suncoast Credit Union and Toyota of Tampa Bay (Academic Support and Federal Programs Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Research has shown that school attendance, one of the key performance indicators, is the foundation of student achievement. Seventeen years ago, in an effort to encourage school attendance, Deputy Superintendent Beth Shields initiated an annual attendance program to recognize students who have maintained perfect attendance from kindergarten through the 12th grade. This year two local businesses, Toyota of Tampa Bay and Suncoast Credit Union, joined Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) to recognize five seniors who have achieved 13 years of perfect attendance. Those students are:
  • Emilie Dunn, Newsome High School
  • Ryan Ingraham, Sickles High School
  • Jacob Lorentzen, Durant High School
  • Logan Phillips, Pepin Academy
  • Michael Stone, King High School
HCPS would also like to extend our gratitude and recognize our community partners, Toyota of Tampa Bay and Suncoast Credit Union for their support of our students with exemplary attendance.  Each of the five students will receive a computer and additional prizes from Suncoast Credit Union.

Additionally, Toyota of Tampa Bay will host a special event called A Perfect Car for Perfect Attendance to honor seniors with at least one year of perfect attendance. During the event, Toyota of Tampa Bay will be giving away a Scion to one lucky senior. Each of the 1,821 eligible seniors will be provided one entry ticket for having earned at least one year of perfect attendance during high school. The five seniors who have earned perfect attendance for 13 years will receive one entry ticket for each year of perfect attendance for their well-deserved accomplishment. The calculation for senior year attendance will only include the first three grading periods.
