Recognition of Middleton High School Robotics Teams for the 2016/2017 School Year (Office of Teaching and Learning) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Four teams competed in three divisions at tournaments in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Texas winning several team and individual honors. The VEX Team advanced to the State of Florida Tournament and qualified for the U. S. National Open. Two teams, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Technical Challenge (FTC), advanced and competed at the State of Florida Championship (FRC). One of the teams advanced to the Super Regional Tournament in Athens, GA. The FIRST Robotics Competition earned bid and competed at the World Championship in Houston last week. This is the 7th year in a row that Middleton High School has sent at least one team to compete at the World Championship. Individual Honors Erin Piacitelli, 11th grader was named as a Dean's List Finalist, an honor bestowed on the top 0.1% of robotics student worldwide. This is the 3rd year in a row that Middleton High School has had a Dean's List Finalist; Rich Berglund, (Volunteer Senior Mentor) was named the Volunteer of the Year for FIRST Lego League. Total number of volunteers in First Lego League numbers 10,000 plus.
