SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Memorandum of Agreement Between Latinos in Action, Inc. and The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida (Outreach and School Improvement)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Latinos in Action (LIA) and Hillsborough County Public Schools desire to ensure high quality educational programs and leadership experiences that prepare students for life.

The program will be implemented in Area 2 schools, specifically Pierce and Webb Middle Schools and Leto High School, where there is a higher concentration of Hispanic students.  Students participating in the LIA program will be empowered to recognize their personal assets, have a greater appreciation for excelling in education, participate in service learning projects, and build greater leadership capacity.  The LIA model is delivered in a class environment where a certified teacher is presenting the curriculum and facilitating project-based learning opportunities with students for middle and high school elective credit.

LIA desires to examine the impact of this program and will work closely with school district personnel to use appropriate educational data to facilitate evaluation and continuous improvement in a manner which complies with the Family Educational Rights and Protection Act (FERPA) and other relevant regulations.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration • Engage and communicate with families and stakeholders
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
Memorandum of Agreement budget amount $15,000 (includes site visits, school license fees, and onsite technical support).  The district has applied for a NoVo Foundation The Social and Emotional Learning Innovation Award for Districts grant.  In the event the district is not awarded NoVo Foundation funding, the operation of this program will be covered through the Title III grant.
EVALUATION
Administrators from LIA, participating schools, and Hillsborough County Public Schools will work together to ensure appropriate data are available for the examination of impacts of programs, in a manner that complies with federal, state, and district privacy laws, rules, and regulations. Results of impact analyses will be provided to the district's Community Engagement & Philanthropy department for dissemination to the appropriate district personnel.
