SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Plant City Elks Lodge #1727 is “Paying It Forward” to Area 6, Plant City Schools for Contributing to Outstanding School Lunch Balances (Outreach and School Improvement)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Plant City Elks Lodge #1727 decided to “Pay It Forward”.  This organization has presented all Plant City, Area 6 schools, with checks to pay off school lunch balances at each school.  Unpaid balances carry over from year to year.

As part of the district’s courtesy meal benefit, a student may charge up to 5 meals in elementary school and up to 2 meals in secondary schools before charges accrue on the child’s account and become a student/family financial obligation. Students with outstanding lunch charges owed are limited to alternate lunches.  Alternate lunches, while nutritious in value, offer limited choices to students. Our district's Student Nutrition Services is the 6th largest feeding program in the nation, serving more than 232,000 meals daily.

Research states that school meals matter in education. The generous support of individuals of the Plant City Elks Lodge #1727 are assisting Area 6 schools in supporting families in need by eliminating student/family financial responsibility.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Engage and communicate with families and stakeholders
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  No)
There is no financial impact to the District.  The Plant City Elks Lodge #1727 has donated $2691.26 to Area 6 Schools.
