SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve all Title II, Part A Project and Funds: Teacher and Principal Training and Recruitment Fund Based on Final Approval from the State for the 2017/2018 School Year (Educational Leadership and Professional Development Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Title II, Part A entitlement grant will provide funds for the purpose of recruiting and training staff in the following areas:
  • Activities and strategies that support the recruitment of highly qualified teachers
  • Teacher training in such areas as instructional strategies, classroom management, and equity
  • Utilizing salary differentials to recruit and retain highly qualified teachers in high poverty schools
  • Core content training for teachers and administrators
  • Leadership and school improvement strategies
  • Assessment and evaluation strategies for analysis of student data
  • Strategies to eliminate the achievement gap
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Recruit, support, and retain a highly effective and diverse workforce • Develop, recognize, and reward employees • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
If approved, grant funds will be available in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget Title II in the anticipated amount of $6,307,000.  For tracking purposes, the projects specific to this agenda item are 3337, 3338, and 3389.
EVALUATION
By September 30, 2018, a comprehensive evaluation of the 2017/2018 Title II, Part A Project will be completed. The information will be used to prioritize and direct Title II dollars toward programs and trainings that are closing the achievement gap and improving teacher performance.
