SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Agreement with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) to Continue and Expand Offerings of Aerospace-Related Dual-Enrollment Courses (Workforce Connections)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This agreement with ERAU will continue the ERAU Aerospace Career Academy at Robinson High School and expand our offerings to align with JROTC programs at Jefferson High School (Air Force) and Steinbrenner High School (Army). The objective of these courses is to introduce high school students to collegiate and professional trade-level study with a focus on professional aeronautical topics leading to both high school graduation credits and college credits for courses completed, as well as industry certification.

ERAU will provide both teacher training and curriculum materials to implement this program. Aerospace Career Academy courses will be taught by current teachers by mutual agreement of ERAU and Hillsborough County Public Schools, and who will be credentialed and qualified to teach under the criteria established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $4,549 will be available in Industry Certification Project 4527.  These funds are from weighted Full Time Equivalent (FTE) funds earned by previous student achievement in Industry Certification testing. Students in these ERAU Dual Enrollment courses have the opportunity to achieve industry certification, which would generate funding to use to continue this program in future school years.
EVALUATION
In 2016/2017, there were 43 students enrolled in Robinson High School’s ERAU Dual Enrollment Courses. These courses included Aviation Physics, Private Pilot Operations, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Students in this program earned ten industry certifications in Small UAS Safety Certification and one industry certification in FAA Private Pilot.

Career and Technical Education Department staff will evaluate this agreement based on the number of students earning the dual-enrollment credit and industry certifications for the 2017/2018 school year.
