SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Agreements with Baseball, Softball, and Lacrosse Officials Organizations for Athletic Contests, 2017/2018 (Educational Access, Opportunity, and Alternatives Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We request approval of the negotiated agreements for officiating athletic contests with the following organizations:
  • West Coast Umpires Association—to provide umpires for scheduled high school baseball contests
  • Hillsborough County Umpires Association—to provide umpires for scheduled high school softball contests
  • Tampa Bay Lacrosse Officials Association—to provide lacrosse officials for scheduled high school boys' lacrosse contests
  • Tampa Women's Lacrosse Officials, Inc.—to provide lacrosse officials for scheduled high school girls' lacrosse contests
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Establish a strong foundation of financial stewardship • Demonstrate "best practices" in all aspects of safety: student, employee, visitor, facility, transportation, and health
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
Funds in the amount of $93,455 will be available in the Athletic Department Budget.  For tracking purposes, the project number specific to this agenda item is 6406.  As of January 23, 2018, the remaining balance less encumbrances for this line item equaled $93,455.
EVALUATION
Schools have a communication method that serves as the evaluation process of officials on a game-by-game basis.  If coaches and/or administrators have any issues with officials, the school will send a written report and/or video evidence to the Athletics Department regarding the issue.  The Athletics Department will then communicate with the leadership of the officials' association or a meeting will be conducted to address any concerns.
