SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Revisions to the Student Progression Plan (SPP), Kindergarten-Adult for the 2017/2018 Academic Year
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Office of Teaching and Learning initiated a major revision of the SPP to more clearly align with the district’s vision and mission.  This document is a requirement of Florida Statute 1008.25.  Section 1008.25 of the Florida Statutes requires each school district to establish a comprehensive program for student progression that includes standards for evaluating how well each student masters the Florida Standards.

The project began in the Spring of 2017 with the establishment and convening of a 31-member taskforce for the purpose of engaging multiple perspectives through a lens of equity.  This taskforce consisted of Classroom Teacher Association (CTA) teachers, counselors, assistant principals, principals, supervisors, directors, and general directors, as listed in the document.

The work included a thorough review of the district’s strategic plan, policies, procedures, and student handbook, as well as legislation and plans from other districts.  Based on taskforce input, the document was reformatted and reorganized to increase readability.  Academic information that previously resided in the Student Handbook was integrated to provide a more comprehensive document for our students and families to be able to easily navigate our district’s SPP.  Additional updates reflect district procedural changes to increase opportunities for student success and legislative requirements to ensure compliance.  Revisions are summarized on the attachment.
