AdvancEd/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Accreditation Update (Deputy Superintendent)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Hillsborough County Public Schools achieved district-wide accreditation from AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 2010.  The district was re-accredited in 2015.  At that time AdvancED/SACS provided the district with a score known as the Index of Educational Quality (IEQ).  The IEQ provides a holistic measure of overall performance based on a comprehensive set of indicators and evaluative criteria. A formative tool for improvement, it graphically pinpoints areas of success as well as areas in need of focus.  Earlier this year our district was required to complete an Accreditation Progress Report (APR), responding to the findings of the 2015 External Review team. The IEQ score comprises three domains: 1)    the impact of teaching and learning on student performance; 2)    the leadership capacity to govern; and 3)    the use of resources and data to support and optimize learning. The overall and domain scores can range from 100-400. The domain scores are derived from: AdvancED/SACS Standards and Indicators ratings; results of the Analysis of Student Performance; and data from Stakeholder Feedback Surveys (students, parents, and staff).  As a result of the AdvancED/SACS evaluation of our APR the district’s overall IEQ score jumped improved from 259 to 287, an increase of 11 percent.  The scores for all three domains improved as well.  While AdvancED/SACS does not provide for a system-wide average IEQ score, ours is well above average according to Dr. Pat Wentz, Florida State Director for AdvancED/SACS. The new IEQ scores reflect both progress and a culture of continuous improvement and correspond to many of the new processes and procedures put in place by Superintendent Eakins and acted on by the Board.  Our next district accreditation External Review will take place in the Spring of 2020.
