SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the District Digital Classrooms Plan for 2016/2017 for Hillsborough County Public Schools (Chief of Staff)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Florida Statute 1011.62 was amended in the 2014 session and signed into law in July 2014.  The statute includes a Florida Digital Classrooms allocation to support efforts to improve student performance outcomes by integrating technology in classroom teaching and learning.  The statute requires each district to develop a District Digital Classrooms Plan, have the plan approved by the School Board, and submit the plan to the Florida Department of Education for approval.

Attached is a copy of the District Digital Classroom Plan for 2016/2017.  The plan focuses on providing students and teachers with digital skills necessary to maximize their success on the next generation of online assessments.   The state funding allocation will be used to meet the requirement to allow each high school to administer the Florida Standards Assessments to an entire grade at the same time.  This will be accomplished by the purchase of up to 8,000 mobile devices meeting the assessment specifications and using a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) to provide additional assessment desktops.

The district’s plan was developed with input from a wide group of stakeholders, including:  district teachers, district instructional, financial, and information technology staff, as well as site based technology contacts and classroom teachers.  The plan is required to include five topics: measurable student performance outcomes, digital learning and technology infrastructure, professional development, digital tools, and online assessments; our Digital Classrooms Plan encompasses these requirements.
