Approve School Bus Brand Options and Purchase Utilizing the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) School Bus Bid #2016-01 for the Purchase of School Buses and Optional Equipment with Various State-Approved Vendors (Business Services Division) (Revised Attachment, Page 2)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Approve the purchase of 100 replacement school buses as outlined in the 2016/2017 capital replacement plan. The 100 replacement school buses consist of 20 diesel buses with a 77-passenger capacity, Type C bus with lift; 40 diesel buses with a 77-passenger capacity Type C bus without lift; and 40 propane buses with a 77-passenger capacity, Type C bus without lift.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)

Funds in the amount of $10,619,210.00 will be available in the Capital Projects Fund. For tracking purposes, the project number specific to the new school bus purchase is 8616.  As of September 19, 2016, the budgeted amount for the Capital Projects Fund totals is $231,419,632.80.  The expenditure breakdown will be: 

  • $7,191,362.00 Fund 326 Community Investment Tax Capital dollars
  • $988,192.00 Fund 376 Local Capital Millage FY 15/16
  • $2,439,656.00 Fund 377 Local Capital Millage FY 16/17
EVALUATION
Once purchased and in use we will continue the evaluation of the performance of each school bus using similar routes and roads, similar student capacity, and driver opinion. The evaluation will analyze price, fuel economy, maintenance needs (days out of service), A/C issues, driver and student satisfaction, and all warranty issues.
