SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Adoption of Proclamation-Black History Month, February 2017 (Diversity Office)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The district recognizes that any program that assists in educating our students, families, and communities around issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural sensitivity is worthy of the investment of time, resources, and human empathy required to realize lasting change. Therefore, the activities of Black History Month are an opportunity for shared responsibility and collective impact.

Since 1926, Americans have recognized and widely celebrated Black History Month. Observance of Black History Month commemorates the fact that our country and community have benefited from the contributions of African-Americans and celebrates their significant achievements on local, state, and national levels.

In celebration, Hillsborough County Public Schools and the varying departments will recognize and honor the contributions and achievements of African-Americans.
