FROM: | Jeff Eakins, Superintendent |
SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Purchase of Hearing Technology from Phonak, Inc. (Sole-Source Provider) (Educational Access, Opportunity, and Alternatives Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
When a student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Team determines that he/she requires amplification equipment, the district must provide that equipment per the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Additionally, in order to meet a student’s amplification needs, hearing technology equipment must be calibrated annually, maintained, and upgraded as needed.
Hearing technology equipment is also mandated by our School Board-approved Special Policies and Procedures (SP&Ps), which specify that the district must provide auditory amplification equipment for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and who are in need of that equipment per the determination by the student’s IEP Team. Phonak, Inc. is designated as sole-source, and Phonak is the manufacturer and the only US source for this amplification equipment. The purchase is therefore exempt from the requesting competitive solicitations by the Florida Department of Education 6A-1.012 Purchasing Policies (11) (b). |
