Recognition of the 2017 World Languages State Competition Winners (Office of Teaching and Learning)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The importance and advantages of learning a world language is continuing to increase daily.  Apart from being able to converse with people in their own language, it also teaches tolerance, understanding, and cultural awareness.  Learning a world language opens the door to other cultures and helps students become more competitive in the global marketplace.  Students studying Spanish recently competed against other districts throughout the state in a statewide competition that included poetry, recitation, and skits. We would like to recognize the students from King High School, Plant High School, Wharton High School, and Williams Middle Magnet School who placed first in the 2017 World Languages French State Competition.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration
