SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Contract for The Collaboratory Preparatory Academy, Formerly The Collaboratory (Chief of Schools)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Charter School legislation, 1002.33 F.S., permits individuals, organizations, and community members the opportunity to submit an application to the School Board for the creation of a charter school.  On December 6, 2016, the School Board approved the application for The Collaboratory. The Charter School Board approved a name change on March 24, 2017, to The Collaboratory Preparatory Academy.  The school will serve students in grades K-8 using a traditional curriculum with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) and character development.

A copy of the proposed ten-year contract for the school is attached.  The school is a high performing replication and is eligible for a longer term contract for facility financing by statute. The original charter application approved by the School Board will become Appendix I of this contract, and will be available for review in the Charter School Office.

In the event of a discrepancy between the contract and the charter application, the terms of the contract will prevail.  The Collaboratory Preparatory Academy has agreed to all terms of the contract, which has been revised to include the most recent revisions to 1002.33, F.S.

A copy of the application review summary is attached. No weaknesses are noted.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
All Strategic Objectives
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)
The charter school's first year enrollment projection of 162 students will generate approximately $1,142,242 in FEFP (Part I) funds.  The school district retains a 5 percent administrative fee for up to and including 250 students ($57,112) of FEFP funds to offset services provided by the district.  The school will also qualify for categorical, capital outlay, and grant funds as appropriate and allowed by Florida statutes.
EVALUATION
A contract renewal review will be completed prior to the contract end of June 30, 2027.
