Approve Proposed Attendance Boundary Adjustments for the Following Schools: Hunter's Green, Clark, Mort, MOSI, Pride, Shaw, Heritage, Witter, Forest Hills, Pizzo, Greco, Adams, Sligh, Van Buren, and the new PK-8

Attendance boundary changes are occasionally needed within Hillsborough County Public Schools to prevent or reduce overcrowding and to maximize capacity so that the use of available classroom space is maximized. This reduces the need to build additional schools at extraordinary costs to taxpayers. Another goal of boundary change is to bring neighborhoods together when possible by implementing contiguous attendance zones.

This proposal is recommending attendance boundary changes that will impact areas in and around North Tampa and New Tampa (effective August 2018). This proposal will impact the attendance boundaries for the following elementary and middle schools: Hunter's Green, Clark, Mort, MOSI, Pride, Shaw, Heritage, Witter, Forest Hills, Pizzo, Greco, Adams, Sligh, and Van Buren.  Communicating with key stakeholders is an important part of the school redistricting process. Parent/community input meetings were held on March 28, 2017, and March 30, 2017, and public comment sheets were collected, compiled, and reviewed by staff. Since these meetings were held, staff conducted additional research and developed a modification to the original attendance boundary proposal moving students from Heritage to Pride (Addison Park Apartments). This revision is needed to better balance the projected enrollments between Pride and Heritage.  All of the requests were evaluated, such as Cory Lakes and Arbor Greene remaining at Pride and the Cahoon magnet program remaining in place, but based on projections and capacity, these revisions could not be accommodated.

The revised proposal is detailed below with implementation strategies developed to assist families with the transition. Attached is an explanation of the process, a summary of stakeholder outreach, enrollment projections for 2018-19, and maps depicting the proposed revised attendance boundaries of the fourteen (14) schools.  All public comments are available for School Board review. The final recommended attendance boundaries for all the schools can be found on pages 17-30.
