SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Contract Between the School District of Hillsborough County and Easter Seals Florida, Inc. for Teen Parent Child Care Services Effective August 1, 2005 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Easter Seals Florida, Inc. will deliver child care services for student participants in the Teen Parent Programs at Burney Simmons Career Center and D. W. Waters Career Center by staffing and maintaining a child care facility at each above site. This contract provides services for the period of August 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006. Due to the necessity of completing a Request for Proposal, the execution of this contract was delayed. This contract does not require legal review.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The district will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The total of $250,000.00 ($4,830.00 – average annual cost of care per child), which is 100% of the funding, comes from the Florida Department of Education and is expended for child care. Approximately 52 infants and toddlers whose mothers participate in the Alternative Education Teen Parent Program are provided child care services. The monthly payments are based on student attendance and the daily rate; and cannot be a fixed cost. This item is included in the District Special Revenue/Federal Programs Budget and does not impact Part 1 of the budget.
