SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with Ruby Payne for Training - $30,000 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Ruby Payne continues to be one of the leading experts on the culture of poverty and how to help educators and other professionals work effectively with children and adults from that culture. Ruby Payne began training educators in Hillsborough County during the 2002-2003 school year. Besides the numerous participants who have received her expertise, Hillsborough County presently has 70 certified trainers who have carried her message to their school sites impacting thousands of employees. On August 22nd, Dr. Payne is scheduled to conduct recertification training for these 70 trainers. On August 23rd and 24th, she will be presenting the “Frameworks of Poverty” Training for an additional 125 participants. The average cost per employee per day will be $100 and will be paid out of Title I Staff Development funds.

Goal 5- The district will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind
