Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) – 2006 Legislative Platform Proposals

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Yearly, the Florida School Boards’ Association (FSBA) requests input from school boards throughout the state regarding possible legislative priorities for inclusion into FSBA’s Legislative Program. Staff provides the Board with recommended priorities based upon positions taken by the Board. The Board reviews the staff recommendations and approves, changes, or deletes the recommendations or directs staff to develop additional recommendations.Approve the proposed issues for the 2006 Legislation Session.

  1. Realign responsibility for charter school oversight to the Florida Board of Education.
  2. Move Workforce Funding as a Categorical into the K-12 Budget.
  3. Provide a formula for student growth and program costs for students funded by the Exceptional Student Education Guaranteed Allocation.
  4. Accountability of both the McKay Scholarship and Corporate Income Tax Credit Scholarship programs.
  5. Fully fund transportation and eliminate the two-mile rule so that students who live within two miles of their school will generate funding.
