SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve 2005-2006 Teachers Teaching Out-of-Field

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Florida State Board Rule 6A-1.0503 requires the School Board to approve teachers' assignments to classes which are out of their field of certification. Past practice has been for the Board to delegate the school principal authority to make such offers of employment, provided the out-of-field (OF) teachers sign agreements to earn six semester hours of credit annually toward the appropriate certification, or pass the state subject area examination if available, or meet the highly qualified criteria under the High, Objective, Uniform State Standard of Evaluation (HOUSSE) adopted by the state.

The attached list identifies all teachers whose employment for the 2005-2006 school year was previously approved by the Board, but whose appointments did not carry the "OF" indicator on the standard 3.01 Agenda Item, "Approve Personnel List," due to a reporting error when the district transitioned to a revised Board report. Retroactive approval of these teachers' out-of-field appointments to their original date of Board appointment will ensure appropriate compliance with SBR 6A-1.0503 that requires the Board to approve all out-of-field appointments.
