On June 1, 2004, the Student Nutrition Services Department received the final report of the Hinson & Associates Kitchen Assessment Report 2004. This district-wide assessment identified the current Kitchen and Student Servery at Plant High School as outdated and in poor condition. GLE Associates, Inc. and Horus Construction Services, Inc. were selected from the approved Continuing Services list to renovate the existing cafeteria kitchen and servicing area thereby enabling students to be served quickly and efficiently. The renovated facility will be within the existing walls and roof. The scope of work will include removal of all non-load bearing interior walls, removal and replacement of existing concrete slab and all floor finishes, and removal of ceramic block from perimeter walls to be replaced with ceramic wall tile. The resulting open space will be reconfigured to include food preparation area, Kitchen Manager's Office, staff toilets and locker areas, dry storage, etc. Also included is replacement of all kitchen equipment, the exhaust hood, freezer/cooler, student serving line, existing windows, doors and frames.

Approval of the guaranteed price will provide a maximum cost for the facility. Project completion is scheduled for February 1, 2006.

Construction cost is warranted at $949,889. The construction budget is $950,000. This item is included in the District Capital Outlay: Classrooms First.
