Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Keyboard Consultants for FCAT PROOFREADING Activities, Visually Impaired Grant, $21,500 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

The Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired (FIMC-VI) is funded by the Florida Department of Education (DOE), and the School District of Hillsborough County serves as the fiscal agent. The Center is responsible for providing materials' services to Florida's school districts statewide.

Keyboard Consultants will provide services for proofreading both the contracted and uncontracted Braille version of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) SSS Grades 3-10 in Reading and Mathematics; Grade 10 Retake; Grades 4, 8, and 10 in Writing+; Grades 5, 8, and 11 in Science; and the FCAT Norm-Referenced Test (NRT) Grades 3-10 in reading and mathematics. The proofreading will be conducted according to deadlines set by the FCAT contractors (CTB McGraw-Hill and Harcourt Assessment, Inc.)

The consultant has successfully performed this function to the satisfaction of DOE and its FCAT contractors for the past five years. The consultant has the necessary knowledge and experience with the Literary Braille Code, Braille Formats: Principles of Print to Braille Transcription (Textbook Code), Nemeth Braille Code for Mathematics and Science Notation, and the Computer Braille Code.
